d'Albora jumps aboard Antarctic circumnavigation!
As record-breaking solo sailor Lisa Blair prepares to embark on her latest adventure, a tilt at the speed record for circumnavigating Antarctica solo, d'Albora has jumped aboard with financial support for her campaign.
Already providing in-kind support, upon hearing that Lisa needed more funds to make it to the start line, d'Albora immediately purchased 30 degrees from the 360 degrees fundraising campaign (see more at 360 Degree Sponsors — Lisa Blair Sails the World. In doing so, they are supporting the sustainability and ocean science Lisa plans to undertake while sailing solo around Antarctica.
Aboard her yacht Climate Action Now, Lisa is setting off in February 2022 chasing the world record as the fastest person to sail solo, nonstop, and unassisted around Antarctica below 45 degrees. This has presented an opportunity to collect scientific data on ocean health, deploy weather drifter buoys and collect microplastic samples in the most remote oceans of Antarctica. Few ships travel these areas and minimal data currently exists.
d'Albora was Lisa’s first sponsor when she announced that she was going to sail solo around Antarctica for the 2017 record and has been prominent in all her sailing since then, including supporting Lisa’s all-female Sydney to Hobart team, the d'Albora Action Project: 360 Australia - Australian circumnavigation, and the two-handed Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race. d’Albora Marinas has always given Lisa’s vessel, Climate Action Now, a home.
d'Albora has a strong sustainability and sailing focus with actions such as the Seabin Project, a Not-For-Profit fundraising organisation that address education, research and innovation projects that result in cleaner oceans, as well as the non-for-profit Making Waves Foundation MWF - Creators of Change.
d’Albora believe every experience on the water should be lived to the fullest. Their extensive end-to-end marine and hospitality services are carefully designed to create effortless boating lifestyles for their members. As Australia’s largest premium marine and hospitality network, d’Albora offers 10 prime marina locations, each designed around exceptional care for vessels and first-class experiences.
Julien Pouteau, General Manager Customer Experience, states “a project like Lisa’s is so important for our environments with this being such a rare research opportunity for ocean health and micro plastics, when we heard she needed more support we didn't hesitate to help. We will be following with great interest and wish Lisa every success.”
Also sponsoring Lisa by rallying together to purchase three degrees of longitude, is the Women Who Sail Australia group, of which Lisa is a member. Founder of WWSA, scientist Dr Shelley Wright, applauds d'Albora’s commitment to both the marine environment and women in sailing.
